課程大綱	Course Title: Engineering Optimization Methods and Applications The course focuses on the fundamental theory and concepts of "Engineering Optimization Methods," "Linear Programming," "Nonlinear Programming," "Multi-objective Function Optimization," "Modern Mathematical Planning Methods," and "Cross-Attribute System Optimization." Hands-on practices using optimization software and term projects are some key elements. Students will report their term projects at the end of the semester. Throughout the semester, students can better understand the optimization principle and apply it to their daily activities. The University Social Responsibility (USR) concept will be brought into the class this semester. Guide students to apply the optimization method in their term projects, vehicle designs, and research applications.
課程進度	Course Title: Engineering Optimization Methods and Applications a. Week, b. Topic 1、 Outline of teaching syllabus and design (Chapter 1)--A general overview of the course. The USR program is introduced into the class. Students are encouraged to use the vehicles used in USR as the course term project. Guide students to apply optimal methods in the USR vehicles. 2、 Formulation of the optimization design problem (Chapter 2). 3、 Formulation of the optimization design problem (Chapter 2). 4、 Optimizing design by drawing method (Chapter 3). Introduce the lightweight design concept by using fewer materials and still satisfying the design requirements. 5、 The basic concept of optimal design (Chapter 4) (Use USR simplified 3D printing model for lightweight design optimization exercises.) 6、 Optimal Design Concepts: Global Optimization and Lagrange multipliers (Chapter 4). 7、 Optimal Design Concepts: KKT (Chapter 5). (Introduce the general design concept for electric vehicles. Use the vehicle of the USR project as an example for design improvement.) 8、 Linear Programming: Initial Basic Feasible Solution (Chapter 6). 9、 Midterms, Solving Linear Programming (Chapter 6) & Semester Project planning. 10、 Linear Programming: Duality (Chapter 7); Numerical Methods for Unconstrained Optimal Design (Chapter 8) 11、 Numerical Methods for Unconstrained Optimal Design (Chapters 8 and 9) 12、 Numerical methods for unconstrained optimal design (Chapter 9). 13、 Numerical Methods for Constrained Optimal Design (Chapter 10). (Introduce the design optimization software and use the USR vehicle as an example to conduct various design analyses and optimization.) 14、 Numerical Methods for Constrained Optimal Design (Chapters 10 and 11). 15、 Numerical Methods for Constrained Optimal Design (Chapter 11). 16、 Other physical applications. Report on term projects/USR vehicle project design optimization. 17、 Report on project/USR optimal and lightweight design for different systems, and/or sub-systems. 18、 Final exam.
評量方式與標準	Course Title: Engineering Optimization Methods and Applications 1. Midterm Exam: 20 % 2. Final Exam: 25% 3. Homework: 15 % 4. Project written report (15%), Project oral presentation (15%) 5. In-class discussion, participation & attendance (10%) 6. Homework is due a week away from the day assigned. 2 points would be subtracted per each single day delay, Delaying for 2 days or more would get 0 points. 7. The report is due on the day of the oral presentation. 3 points would be subtracted per each single-day delay. Delaying for 4 days or more would get 0 points. 8. Copying and cheating are not allowed. If found copying and cheating, 0 points for the events. 9. Term project reports are due in week 18. (including conference paper, PPT, and all data, analysis model files, literature, and all supporting material.)
