課程大綱 The ever-changing design trends are influenced by many factors that lead to increasingly complex challenges for people, society and the environment. To keep up with the state-of-the-art research and emerging technologies, designers need to acquire a rich body of knowledge and transfer integrated insights from various disciplines to the new product development. This course focuses on the cultivation of students’ critical thinking ability through analyzing the global design case studies and literature. Students will be asked to take a very active role to contribute to discussions and presentations.

課程進度 Week Topics 1 Course objective, structure, syllabus, and grading 2 Introduction: Why understanding trends matter 3 Design practice and design research 4 Case studies in design awards and competition 5 Discussion: Grand world challenge 6 PART I: Leading international academic journals 7 Discussion: Select preliminary topic 8 Discussion: Peer-reviewed design articles 9 Interim presentation: Research questions 10 Discussion: Articulate a point of view 11 Discussion: Think critically about the topic 12 PART II: International design conferences 13 Discussion: Design, creativity, invention, innovation 14 Discussion: Research integrity 15 Discussion: Design plagiarism 16 Discussion: Assessment and feedback 17 Discussion: Reflecting on the design research framework 18 Final report submission
