課程大綱 Geological hazard is one of the main types of natural disasters, and historically it has brought endless pain to humans, leaving many painful memories, so it is the environmental issues that are of the most concern to people. This class is highly recommended for the following reasons: (1) understandable explanations of complex geologic processes are provided in clear diagrams, (2)world-wide examples are used, (3) modern interdisciplinary approaches are emphasized, (4) a robust bibliography is provided.

課程進度 Week 1. Introduction Week 2. Landslide Week 3. Slope failure form characteristics Week 4. Assessment of slopes Week 5. Treatment of slopes Week 6. Investigation of slopes Week 7. Groundwater and Oil extraction Week 8. Midterm examination Week 9 Week Subsurface mining Week 10. Solution of Rock Week 11. Soil subsidence and collapse Week 12. Heave in soil and rock Week 13. Earthquakes Elements Week 14. Surface effects on the geologic environment Week 15. Earthquake resistant design Week 16. Investigation: Important structure in high-hazard areas Week 17. The earth and geologic History Week 18. End-term examination

評量方式與標準 Attendance rate 10%；Usual exam 30%；Mid-term exam 30%；final exam 30%
