課程大綱	This course focuses on advanced architectural design through the synthesis of scale, spatial resolution, materiality and tectonic strategies. Students will develop critical methods to address complex site contexts and formal problems. Operating as a project-based design studio, this course emphasizes contextual understanding and conceptual depth. The methodology combines research, design development, and documentation to foster independent judgment. Students produce architectural proposals that demonstrate high-level spatial and technical maturity. Processes and outcomes are conveyed via drawings and physical models, reflecting the demands of complex, cross-disciplinary practice.
課程進度 (1-16週)	The Intimate Whole: between exterior rooms and the monument Originally established in 1914 as a Japanese-era winery (Taihoku Winery), Huashan 1914 Creative Park is a primary remnant of Taipei’s industrial heritage. Its historic factory fabric exists at the intersection of two divergent urban logics: the axes of a colonial industrial past and the rigid grid of modern Taipei’s infrastructure collide at an awkward angle. This axial misalignment has produced a residual urban void—a “leftover” plaza that fails to invite the public. From the scale of the boulevard, the historic factory buildings appear fragmented and remote, lacking a clear sense of arrival and the spatial tension necessary to define their place in the contemporary city. The task is to design a Visitor and Cultural Center that operates as a precise architectural threshold, mediating between these conflicting geometries and transforming this ambiguous vacancy into a meaningful Urban Room. The intervention focuses on the precise definition of exterior space, sensitively negotiating mass and void along with facades to redefine the character of the site. Rather than merely occupying the empty open space, the new building must define the surrounding void, giving a sense of place to the dormant amphitheater and the open plaza. By carefully placing the program—information, an urban archive, a bookstore, and a cafe—the project must recalibrate the visitor’s perception of the existing heritage and create a new dialogue between the street and the old factories. While the intervention primarily addresses the ground, the below-ground level may also be utilized to expand the architectural possibilities.
