課程大綱	本課程為工業設計系學生量身規劃之「工程材料與實習」課程，旨在讓學生在設計實務中具備做出正確材料判斷的能力。修習本課程後，學生將能辨識不同工程材料在結構、觸感、外觀與加工上的本質差異，並理解材料選擇如何直接影響產品的設計語言與使用者體驗。透過材料力學、實際案例與實作練習，學生將學會依產品需求在材料、製程、成本與量產可行性之間進行合理取捨，避僅憑直覺做出不具可行性的設計決策。課程同時引導學生預測材料選擇可能帶來的結構行為、外觀表現、耐用度與潛在失效風險，培養在設計早期即能察覺工程問題的能力。透過工程語言導入、拓樸優化工具、3D 列印與實作討論，學生將建立與工程端溝通的共同語言，有效降低設計與工程之間的理解落差。整體課程強調「材料 × 設計 × 工程 × 製程」的整合思考，使學生能在實際設計專案中，提出具工程可行性且具設計價值的材料選用方案。 ________________________English Version_______________________ This course, Engineering Materials and Practice, is specifically designed for students in Industrial Design. Its primary objective is to equip students with the ability to make informed and appropriate material decisions in design practice. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to identify fundamental differences among engineering materials in terms of structure, tactile qualities, appearance, and manufacturing processes, and understand how material choices directly influence product design language and user experience. Through an introduction to material mechanics, real-world case studies, and hands-on exercises, students will learn to make rational trade-offs among materials, manufacturing processes, cost, and mass-production feasibility based on product requirements, avoiding design decisions driven solely by intuition. The course further guides students to anticipate the potential consequences of material selection, including structural behavior, visual outcomes, durability, and possible preventing early-stage engineering issues during the design process. By introducing basic engineering terminology, topology optimization tools, 3D printing, and practical discussions, students will develop a shared language with engineering professionals, effectively reducing communication gaps between design and engineering. Overall, the course emphasizes integrated thinking across materials, design, engineering, and manufacturing, enabling students to propose material selection solutions that are both technically feasible and design-driven in real-world design projects.

Class Attendance (50% | Individual) • A total of 12 unannounced roll calls will be conducted during the semester • 5 points per roll call, up to a maximum of 50 points • 2 additional flexible allowances are provided • Roll call results will be announced on the same day; any issues must be raised before the end of class on that day. Late appeals will not be accepted • If you need to miss a class, prior approval from the instructor is not required. Please manage your allowances responsibly 2. Weekly Course Review Assignments (15% | Group) • Required every week except Week 1, the midterm week, and the final exam week • Completed in groups: • Respond to the assigned course questions • Use Google LLM AI to generate a course review report for that session and upload it to the iPlus platform • Evaluation criteria: • Depth of understanding • Quality of reflection • Team collaboration 3. Midterm and Final Exams (30% | Individual) • 15% each • Conducted via Google Forms • Completed on-site; no discussion with others is allowed • Internet access and AI tools are permitted • Both the midterm and final assessments include 3D printing-based practical projects 4. Engagement and Participation Bonus (10% | Individual Bonus) • Assessed based on: • Activeness in class participation • Quality of interactions and discussions with the instructor • Peer evaluation surveys within each group • This component may serve as supplementary bonus points for students with strong attendance but weaker exam performance • Maximum bonus: 10 points
