課程大綱	課程重點：(1)藉由適合其程度的教材加強學生必備的基礎文法觀念和句型結構；(2)使學生確切把握閱讀要領以及充分瞭解寫作的各種技巧，重心在生字、片語、句法的解釋和基本寫作技巧的分析；(3)熟悉英語人士日常生活情境及與學生將來就業環境相關之會話及適當之應對方式；(4)透過練習加強聽、說、讀、寫的知能及表達。 This course is designed (1) to strengthen students' previously required knowledge in English with basic grammatical ideas and sentence patterns reviewed through reading materials appropriate to their levels; (2) to develop reading skill by giving explanation of difficult words, phrases, and syntax, as well as analysis of basic writing skill; (3)to familiarize students with useful expressions in conversation and build up their confidence in cross-cultural communication; (4)to reinforce the competence and performance of listening, speaking, reading and writing by practice.
課程進度	Week 1: Course overview & Getting to Know Each Other - Activities: Self-introductions, Ice-breaker games, pair discussions - Task: Write a brief paragraph about yourself. Week 2: Presentation Skills - Task: make a presentation about your favorite topic. Week 3-4: Making New Friends - Does birth order determine personality? - Grammar & Quiz: Gerunds & infinitives - Task: Write a paragraph describing a person - Presentation Skills Week 5-6: Sharing Life Experiences - The ways we greet each other - Grammar & Quiz: the simple past & the present perfect - Task: Write about an experience - Presentation Skills Week 7: Keys to Success - Activities: Group work & discussions - Task: Deliver a speech Week 8-9: Midterm Presentation Week 10-11: Talking about Movies - What is it about our favorite movies? - Grammar & Quiz: the present perfect (more uses) - Task: Write a two-paragraph review - Presentation Skills Week 12-13: Away from Home - MyHouse = YourHotel - Grammar & Quiz: the future tense - Task: Write a review of one kind of accommodation - Presentation Skills Week 14: Communication Skills - Activities: Group work & discussions - Task: Create a podcast show Week 15-16: Looking Good - Teens Anonymous - Grammar & Quiz: Quantifiers for indefinite quantities and amounts - Task: Write a formal letter - Presentation Skills Week 17-18: Final Presentation
評量方式與標準	* 選修本課程，請務必準時到班上課。 20% School-wide English Proficiency Exam 80% Class Performance, including: - Midterm Presentation: 15% - Final Presentation: 15% - Attendance: 20% (-5% for each absence) - Participation, Quizzes, and Assignments: 30% * Any student who accumulates FIVE unexcused absences in the semester class will receive a no-credit status. 無故缺席5次，即無法獲得本課程學分。
