If your English proficiency is insufficient to fluently understand lectures and participate in discussions, or if you are enrolling merely to obtain credits without a genuine commitment to learning, DO NOT ENROLL in this course. 高等課程 – 難度與預期及格率 (Advanced Course – Difficulty & Anticipated Pass Rate): 此為高等進階課程，內容具相當難度，對學生的投入程度要求較高。本課程預期及格率設定於 60% 至 80% 之間，請確實評估自身學術能力、學習意願及時間投入。 This course, "Advanced Mechanics of Materials," delves into the sophisticated mechanical behavior of materials, with a primary focus on composite materials. 本課程「高等材料力學」旨在深入探討材料的精密力學行為，並重點專研複合材料。 While building upon fundamental mechanics of materials principles, the curriculum is specifically tailored to explore the unique characteristics of composites. 在既有材料力學基礎上，本課程將針對複合材料的獨特性質進行深入教學。 Topics include the introduction to constituent materials (fibers, matrices, and emerging sustainable components like biochar), micromechanics, macromechanical behavior of a lamina, classical lamination theory, stiffness and strength analysis, stress-strain transformations, fatigue failure, and damage mechanisms in composites. 內容包括組成材料介紹（纖維、基材，以及如生物炭等新興永續性組分）、微觀力學、單層板的宏觀力學行為、古典層板理論、勁度與強度分析、應力應變轉換、複合材料的疲勞破壞與損傷機制。 A significant emphasis will be placed on understanding and utilizing biochar-enhanced composites. 課程將特別強調對生物炭增強複合材料的理解與應用。 The course structure incorporates laboratory sessions for hands-on experience and online teaching weeks for flexible learning. 課程結構包含實驗課程以獲取實作經驗，及線上教學週以促進彈性學習。 The course will also investigate the application of advanced composite materials, including those incorporating biochar, particularly in areas like railway systems, sustainable construction, and lightweight structural design. 課程亦將探討高等複合材料的應用，包含那些整合生物炭的材料，尤其是在鐵道系統、永續建築及輕量化結構設計等領域。 課程重要事項 (Important Course Notes) Bilingual Instruction (雙語教學): This course will be conducted with materials and explanations provided in both English and Chinese to support diverse learning needs. 本課程將以中英文雙語提供教材與解說，以支持多元學習需求。 Language of Assessment (評量語言): Major assignments, presentations, and examinations are required to be completed in English. 主要作業、報告及考試需以英文完成。 Laboratory Requirement (實驗課程要求): This course includes several hands-on laboratory sessions. 本課程包含數次實作實驗課程。 Active participation and completion of lab-related tasks are mandatory. 學生必須積極參與並完成實驗相關任務。 Online Teaching Weeks (線上教學週): Specific weeks will be conducted online. 特定教學週將採線上教學。 Students are expected to engage with materials and activities as directed on the Microsoft Teams. 學生應依循Microsoft Teams之指示參與課程材料與活動。 Attendance Policy (出席規定): Students who are absent three (3) or more times (including labs and online sessions where applicable) during the semester will automatically receive a failing grade for the course. 一學期內缺席三（3）次（含以上，適用於實驗課與線上課程應參與部分）者，該課程成績以不及格計。(缺席三次不及格)
課程進度	Week 1-2 (第一至二週): Introduction to Composite Material Components, Emphasis on Biochar 複合材料元件介紹，強調生物炭材料 Learn about the fundamental components (fibers, matrices, interfaces) and structure of composite materials, including an introduction to anisotropic behavior and a special focus on biochar as a sustainable filler/reinforcement. 學習複合材料的基本單元（纖維、基材、界面）與結構，初步介紹異向性行為，並特別關注生物炭作為一種永續性填充劑/增強劑。 Competency Indicator: C401 能力指標: C401 Week 3 (第三週): (Lab Session / 實驗課) Lab #1: Composite Constituents & Microstructure 實驗 #1：複合材料組分與微觀結構 Hands-on session: Introduction to composite material constituents (fibers, matrices, biochar), sample preparation basics, and microstructural observation. Introduction to micromechanical models. 實作課程：介紹複合材料組分（纖維、基材、生物炭）、試片製備基礎及微觀結構觀察。微觀力學模型簡介。 Competency Indicator: C402 (Partial) 能力指標: C402 (部分) Week 4 (第四週): (Online Teaching / 線上教學) Macromechanical Analysis of a Lamina / Composite Material Properties (considering effects of fillers like biochar) 單層板之宏觀力學分析 / 複合材料特性分析 (考量如生物炭等填充劑之影響) Online lecture and exercises on analyzing the physical and mechanical properties of a single lamina based on constituent properties, including basic models for particulate composites (e.g., with biochar). Macromechanical stress-strain relations. 線上授課與練習：根據組成材料特性分析單一疊層的物理與機械性質，包含顆粒型複合材料（例如含生物炭者）之基礎模型。宏觀力學之應力-應變關係。 Competency Indicator: C402 (Continued) 能力指標: C402 (續) Week 5-6 (第五至六週): Mechanical Behavior of Composite Materials / Classical Lamination Theory 複合材料力學行為 / 古典層板理論 Explore the mechanical behavior of composite laminates under different stress and strain conditions using classical lamination theory. 運用古典層板理論，探討複合材料層板在不同應力與應變條件下的力學行為。 Competency Indicator: C403 能力指標: C403 Week 7 (第七週): (Lab Session / 實驗課) Lab #2: Laminate Behavior & Testing Introduction 實驗 #2：層板行為與測試方法簡介 Experimental investigation/demonstration of mechanical behavior of simple laminates; Introduction to mechanical testing methods for composite materials. 簡易層板力學行為之實驗研究/演示；複合材料機械測試方法簡介。 Competency Indicator: C403 (Practical Application / 實務應用) Week 8 (第八週): (Online Teaching / 線上教學) Stiffness of Unidirectional Composite Materials & Laminates 單向性複合材料與層板勁度 Online module on calculating the stiffness (engineering constants, A, B, D matrices) of unidirectional composite materials and symmetric/asymmetric laminates and their applications. 線上單元：學習計算單向性複合材料及對稱/非對稱層板的勁度（工程常數、A, B, D 矩陣）及其應用。 Competency Indicator: C404 能力指標: C404 Week 9 (第九週): (Midterm Exam & Lab Session / 期中考試 & 實驗課) Midterm Examination ; Lab #3: Midterm Review & Problem Solving 期中考試 ；實驗 #3：期中複習與問題研討 Midterm exam covering Weeks 1-8. 評量方式與標準	The final grade will be determined based on the following components: 課程總成績將依下列項目評定： Homework / Assignments (作業 / 功課): 20% (Potentially including biochar composite design/analysis tasks & Lab Reports) (可能包含生物炭複合材料設計/分析作業及實驗報告) • 課堂行為與印象分數 (Classroom Conduct & Impression Score): 20% To maintain a productive learning environment and ensure classroom discipline, all students are expected to actively engage with the course material and refrain from disruptive activities. 為維持良好學習環境及課堂紀律，所有學生應專注於課程內容，避從事干擾教學之行為。 Students found engaging in personal activities unrelated to the course content during class time (e.g., using mobile phones for social media, playing games, attending to private work) will, for that particular class session, receive a zero mark for any applicable impression or participation score component. 若於課堂時間從事與課程內容無關之個人事務（例如：使用手機聊天、玩遊戲、處理私人工作等），該堂課之印象分數或相關參與度評分將以零分計算。(課堂中老師不做提醒，直接評分) Midterm Exam (期中考試): 25% Final Exam (期末考試): 25% Attendance & Participation (出席率與課堂參與): 10% (Lab and Class / 實驗課與一般課堂)
