課程大綱
本課程旨在發展學生獨立規劃及從事研究的能力,學生可在指導老師的指導下,依個別的需求選擇研究的方向,訂定題目,並獨立完成研究計畫,撰寫報告。 專題研究範圍含: 實驗研究 量調查研究或質調查研究 個案研究 回溯研究 文化比較研究 理論闡述研究 This course is designed to develop the student's background for planning and conducting research independently. The nature of the project conducted will vary from student to student, but regardless of the genre of the project, it must result in a written research report. The research project must be conducted by the student individually. It is anticipated that the project will result from: an experiment; a descriptive study using quantitative procedures or qualitative procedures; a case study; a historical study; a cross-cultural study; a theory that offers an alternative interpretation to a current theory or model.
課程進度
In this semester, students will write three separate drafts which we will peer review as a group a week after the draft has been turned in. The first draft, in April, should be 5 pages; the second draft, in May, will be 10 pages; the third draft, in June, will be 15 pages. Students should work towards a viable thesis statement that they can support in a twenty-page paper. Students should work on making sure that each paragraph in their paper begins with a claim that they then support with analyzed evidence.
評量方式與標準
In the spring semester students' grades depend mainly on their participation, with some attention, also, to the quality of their work. To receive a higher grade, students should do the following: 1) Turn in their drafts on time (by the agreed-upon deadline) 2) Do a strong peer review of each other's work and give helpful feedback during our meeting 3) Make progress between each draft, showing that they have paid attention to the comments received. The professor and the students' peers should not need to make the same comments twice--because the student will have made the necessary revisions between drafts. Naturally, students must also pay attention to correct citation and avoid plagiarism and patchwriting.
