| 中文概述 Chinese Description | 〝人從哪裏來？人是什麼？人會往何處去〞修習生物哲學的目的﹐便是要回答上述三個問題。凡是對上述問題有興趣的人?便應該了解生物哲學的理論及其架構。大多數的生物學家同意?是天擇說引導出進化論﹔但是﹐也有人相信創造論或是心智設計?。二者的爭論是什麼？究竟哪一個陣營講的才是對的﹖何以是對的﹖接下來﹐將探討當代進化論的一些議題。例如﹕何以生物學很少有它自己的定律﹖我們還將探討天擇的項目﹑適應論﹐及系統論等等的問題。最後﹐我們將弄清楚進化論對人的概念。有沒有一種普遍的人性﹖假如進化論是對的﹐利他主義是否就不可能存在﹖ | |||
| 英文概述 English Description | "Where have we come from? Who are we? Where are we going?" The goal of studying philosophy of biology is to answer these questions. So anyone interested in such questions needs to understand both the theories and the structure of this subject. Most biologists agree that evolution is driven by natural selection, but there also exists a vocal and growing group of creationists and intelligent-design theorists. What exactly is the debate between the two sides about? Who's right and why? Then we will move on to more specific issues about modern evolutionary theory. For example: Biology seems to have few if any laws of its own. Why is that? Also, questions concerning the units of selection, adaptationism, and systematics, etc. Finally, we will get clear on what evolutionary theory means for our conception of ourselves. Is there an essential human nature that we all share? If evolution is right, does that mean we are incapable of genuine altruism? | |||
