English Description
In around 12th and 13th century, the miscellaneous operas--based on the "zhugongdiao" (approximately meaning various modes of music) music forms-rapid comes into being in the Northern areas ruled by JIN ethnic groups. While at the same time, in the Southern areas dominated by the HAN ethnic groups, another form of operas-named after Nan Xi (literally meaning operas of the south )-show up. These two kinds operas, though drastically different in structures, are both able to present a complete set of factors required by operas and dramas: musical themes, dialogues and subjects all included. During Yuan Dynasty, when the greater China was politically integrated into a single entity, miscellaneous operas, with the capital city as a base, continue to develop to the South and thus become popular around the whole country. This explains why the operas in Yuan Dynasty takes the most dominant role in the Yuan literature.
