Course Objective Course Description Introduction to multi-media sampling techniques and analytical methods for evaluation outdoor/indoor air, soil/surfaces, and water. The course will also emphasize environmental investigative techniques, instrument selection, and quality control, including documentation, calibration, and sample management. Course Goals This course will provide an introduction to multi-media sampling techniques and analytical methods for evaluation outdoor/indoor air, soil/surfaces, and water. By the end of the semester, students who complete all necessary assignments will be able to: 1. Collect samples in their research and in their professions. 2. Identify and quantify environmental pollution. 3. Defend their data and can base good decisions on their measurements.

Quality assurance and quality control 4. measurement uncertainty 5. Figures and tables 6. Environmental sampling, shipment and preservation 7. Water quality indicator and its application 8. Field trip to Taipei Water Department 9. Mid-term exam 10. Waste analysis 11. Water quality analysis 12. TCLP&R222 13. Soil quality analysis 14. Air quality analysis 15. Field trip to air quality monitoring station 16. Case study of environmental analysis 17. Final report

Evaluation and grading policy 1. Mid-Term exam (30%) 2. Final report (30%) 3. Experiment (30%): water, air, and waste 4. Participation (10%): 2 times visiting
