Course Objective The course aims to provide a comprehensive introduction to Internet and computer networking technologies. Unlike traditional course, it pursues a top-down approach to the topics, starting with the application layer and then describing the transport and network layers, finally covering the physical layer. The topics covered in course are: (1) Network Application, (2) TCP and UDP protocols, (3) Network Layer - Data Plane, (4) Network Layer - Control Plane, (5) Link Layer & Local Area Networks, (6) Wireless and Mobile Network, and (7) Multimedia Networking.

Computer Networks and the Internet 1.1 What is the Internet, 1.2 The Network Edge, 1.3 The Network Core 1.4 Delay, Loss, and Throughput in Packet-Switched Networks, 1.5 Protocol Layers and Their Service Models, 1.6 Network Under Attack, 1.7 History of Internet Week 4, 5, 6: 2. Application Layer 2.1 Principles of Network Applications, 2.2 Web and HTTP, 2.3 FTP, 2.4 E-Mail in the Internet 2.5 DNS, 2.6 P2P Applications, 2.7 Socket Programming with TCP, 2.8 Socket Programming with UDP Week 7: Wireshark - Packet Capturer and Analyzer Software Introduction Week 8: Midterm Exam. Week 9, 10, 11: 3.
