Course Objective Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) techniques are popular transmission techniques for wireless and mobile communications, because they offer several advantages such as increasing transmission data rate and enhancing error performance. In the class, we will learn about the basic principles and some advanced topics of OFDM and MIMO. All students taking this class have to study a special topic on OFDM or MIMO as a final project. Some parts of this course will be offered in English.

Review of estimation theory Week 06. OFDM: Orthogonality and efficient implementation by using IFFT/FFT Week 07. Qingming Festival Week 08. OFDM: Equivalent discrete-time multipath channel model and equalization for CP-OFDM Week 09. Midterm Exam Week 10. OFDM: Equalization for CP-OFDM and ZP-OFDM Week 11. OFDM: SC-FDE, DFT-S-OFDM, OFDMA and power allocation problem Week 12. OFDM: PAPR problem and PAPR reduction techniques Week 13. OFDM: Large OOB emission problem and OOB emission reduction techniques Week 14. MIMO: Spatial multiplexing and spatial modulation Week 15. MIMO: Spatial diversity Week 16. Duanwu Festival Week 17. Final Exam Week 18. Student Oral Presentation The schedule may be adjusted if necessary.

Evaluation and grading policy Midterm Exam 30% Final Exam 30% Special Topic Report 40% (20% for Oral Presentation and 20% for Paper Report)
