Course Objective	本課程透過專題式設計單元（Thematic Design Studio）的教學架構，引導學生將建築操作視為一種探詢當代文化、社會動態與空間現象的批判性媒介。課程鼓勵學生跳脫純粹的機能性與物理性思考，轉而關注建築如何回應並介入複雜的文化與環境脈絡。透過研究導向的設計過程，學生將探索空間形式與人類行為、歷史紋理或跨文化議題之間的對話關係，進而在多元的限制與情境中，發展出具備文化敏感度與深度的建築提案。 Structured around a thematic design studio, this module positions architectural operation as a critical apparatus for investigating contemporary culture, social dynamics, and spatial phenomena. Moving beyond mere functionalist and physical parameters, students are challenged to examine how architecture engages with and acts upon complex cultural and environmental contexts. Utilising a research-led design methodology, students will interrogate the dialogue between spatial form and human behaviour, historical strata, or cross-cultural conditions. This rigorous process will enable them to formulate architectural proposals of cultural sensitivity and depth, while negotiating a multiplicity of constraints and situations. Introduction single prow dual flank Set within Taipei’s Zhongzheng District, the project responds to an extreme linear parcel measuring 13 by 80 meters, bounded by a 4-meter north lane and a 6-meter south lane, with MRT Exit 5 situated nearby. Facing public roads on three sides, the project avoids the conventional hierarchy of a primary front facade and a service-oriented rear. The 13-meter western end acts as a monumental single prow at the urban corner, serving as a clear visual head and entrance gesture facing the street. Simultaneously, the 80-meter long elevations along the north and south lanes operate as a dual flank. Rather than acting as a solid barrier between the two alleys, the building may allow physical, visual, and spatial connections to pass between the parallel streets. sustainability The project addresses small-scale collective housing. In terms of sustainability, collective housing should be able to mix various family types, accommodate changing life forms, and have a flexible structure that can adapt to future changes. In addition, this will accommodate neighborhood facilities on the lower floors and provide small outdoor spaces for the public, creating a unique atmosphere through the form and facade of the building to contribute to a beautiful urban landscape. everyday abstraction The work begins with specific imaginations of everyday life, examining how they can be translated into residential layouts and interior spaces, and how they may be expressed in the exterior space of the city. This approach recognizes that ways of life shape not only internal spaces and building forms, but also the character of streets and the urban landscape. representation A new urban landscape should be proposed through specific expression of architectural elements across internal spaces, facades, and overall spatial organization. Rather than relying primarily on abstract diagrams or computer renderings, the studio emphasizes rational and emotional expression through traditional representation methods such as floorplan, elevation, and section drawings, models of various formats and scales, and model photos.
