Course Objective This course is to analyze the macroeconomic policy, international economy, business cycles, government policy, exchange rate and other macroeconomic-related issues. The course will be taught with case studies and journal literature. Group discussions are needed.

Course Schedule Week 1: Introduction to Economics - Scarcity, opportunity cost, and the economic way of thinking. Week 2: Measuring Economic Performance - Gross Domestic Product (GDP), real vs. nominal GDP. Week 3: The Cost of Living - Inflation, Consumer Price Index (CPI), and interest rates. Week 4: Unemployment - Measuring unemployment, types of unemployment. Week 5: Long-Run Economic Growth - Productivity, savings, and investment. Week 6: The Monetary System - Central banks, the Federal Reserve, and money creation. Week 7: Money Growth and Inflation - Quantity theory of money, costs of inflation. Week 8: Midterm Exam Week 9: Aggregate Demand and Aggregate Supply - Short-run vs. long-run fluctuations. Week 10: Fiscal Policy - Government spending, taxes, and the multiplier. Week 11: Monetary Policy - Tools of the central bank, interest rates. Week 12: The Phillips Curve - The short-run tradeoff between inflation and unemployment. Week 13: International Trade & Finance - Exchange rates, balance of payments. Week 14: Final Review & Synthesis

Evaluation and grading policy Assignments/Problem Sets (20%): Weekly assignments applying models to current events. Quizzes (15%): Short, regular quizzes on key definitions. Midterm Exam (30%): Covering foundational concepts Final Exam (35%): Comprehensive, with emphasis on policy analysis
