Course Schedule Week 1 – Course Overview & Network Foundations Introduction to network architecture, layering principles, performance metrics (delay, throughput), and system abstraction. Week 2 – Network Abstractions and Design Principles Protocol layering, encapsulation, end-to-end argument, and system design trade-off. Week 3 – Framing and Error Detection Framing techniques, error detection (CRC), reliable transmission over point-to-point links. Week 4 – Media Access Control and LAN Technologies Multiple access protocols, Ethernet, switching, and wireless LAN fundamentals. Week 5 – Switching and Forwarding Packet switching fundamentals, store-and-forward, queueing basics. Week 6 – Routing Algorithms Distance-vector and link-state routing; shortest-path algorithms. Week 7 – Internet Protocol (IP) IP addressing, subnetting, CIDR, IPv4/IPv6, ARP. Week 8 – Internet Routing and BGP Interdomain routing, BGP fundamentals, Internet architecture. Week 9 – Midterm Examination Week 10 – Transport Layer Fundamentals End-to-end communication, multiplexing, UDP and TCP overview. Week 11 – Reliable Data Transfer Sliding window protocols, flow control, TCP mechanisms. Week 12 – Congestion Control Mechanisms TCP congestion control algorithms (slow start, AIMD, fast recovery). Week 13 – Resource Allocation and QoS Fairness, scheduling algorithms, quality of service principles. Week 14 – Distributed Systems and Data Delivery RPC, distributed storage concepts, content distribution. Week 15 – Network Security Fundamentals Threat models, cryptographic foundations, secure channels (TLS). Week 16 – Application Layer Protocols HTTP, DNS, email protocols, application design patterns. Week 17 – Emerging Topics and System Integration Cloud networking, SDN overview, performance evaluation, student presentations (if applicable). Week 18 – Final Examination
