Course Objective The primary goal of this course is to equip students with foundational 3D modeling and rendering skills, while guiding them through the complete process of transforming a design concept into a tangible output. The course will focus on Rhino 3D, a widely used tool in both fabrication and industrial design. Through a series of tutorials and hands-on exercises, students will develop a solid understanding of the software and gain essential skills applicable to various design industries. By the end of the semester, each student is expected to complete a comprehensive Graphic Doding project, which must include codes, renderings, animations, and a 3D model. This final package will serve as the key evaluation criteria for the course. In addition, we will dedicate part of the class to introducing digital fabrication workflows, providing students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with turning digital models into physical objects.

Course Schedule Week 01: Course Introduction and Overview Week 02: Introduction to the Rhino Interface Basic Software Setup Week 03: Continued Basic Commands: e.g., Sweep2, Extrude Practice: Case Study 1 Week 04: Basic Surface Commands: e.g., Loft, Blend Practice: Case Study 1 Week 05: Deformation Tools and Techniques Practice: Case Study 1 Week 06: Sectioning Tools, Camera Setup, and Layout Practice: Case Study 2 Midterm Presentation Week 07: Advanced Commands: e.g., Flow Practice: Case Study 2 Week 08: Advanced Commands: e.g., Flow Practice: Case Study 2 Week 09: Midterm Test Week 10: Advanced Deformation and Editing Tools Week 11: Coding Project Practice Week 12: Coding Project Practice. Digital Fabrication Prep: File Export and Scaling Week 13: Coding Project Practice Digital Fabrication Hands-On: Basic Output Demo or Laser Cut/3D Print Workflow Week 14: Coding Project Practice Week 15: Coding Project Practice Week 16: Post-Production Techniques using Photoshop or Equivalent. Final Submission. Week17~18: Optional-Online Meeting for refining the final Project.

Evaluation and grading policy Attendance and Class Participation: 30% Midterm Exam: 30% (Week 9, held in the computer classroom) Final Project: 40% (Due Week 18. Please submit your work on time; there will be no class this week, but the instructor will be available for consultation.) Attendance Policy Students who miss more than six classes without a valid reason and without submitting a leave application through the school system will forfeit all points allocated to their Attendance and Class Participation grade.
