Course Objective This course provides a focused treatment of short-circuit analysis for modern power systems. Students will learn how to model system capacity, evaluate short-circuit currents, and apply multiple analytical techniques for fault studies. Emphasis is placed on comparing classical methods, interpreting system behavior through per-unit and MVA approaches, and reinforcing concepts with practical industrial examples. The course is intended to strengthen analytical capability so that even simplified calculations can produce reliable system assessments. Applications include three-phase and single-line-to-ground fault studies, fault-level estimation during transient conditions, and the use of computational tools for fast system evaluation.

Wk 9: Midterm Close Book Exam. Wk 10: Instantaneous Voltage Estimation Using the MVA Method. Wk 11~Wk 12: Industrial Case Studies. Wk 13: Simple Computer Time-Sharing Programs for Fault Analysis. Wk 14: Three-Phase and Unbalanced Fault Scenarios Wk 15~Wk16: Basic of Fault Location for Power Grids Wk 17: System Evaluation and Practical Conclusions. Wk 18: Final Close Book Exam.

Evaluation and grading policy (一). Participation, Report, Quiz, and Homework (出席, 報告, 小考, 與作業): 40%; (二). Midterm Exam (期中考): 30%; (三). Final Exam(期末考): 30%.
