Course Objective Theoretical and computational aspects of finite element method include rod, beam, frame, triangular and quadrilateral elements, assembly process, solution techniques, iso-parametric formulation, and plane stress applications. Program development and modification are expected as well as learning the use of existing codes.

Course Schedule W1-W3. Introduction to finite element analysis software W4-W6. Introduction to the finite element method W7-W9. Application in structural analysis W10-W12. Review of three dimensional linear elasticity W13-W15. Finite element solution of two dimensional elasticity problems W16-W18. Higher order and mapped elements in two and three dimensions

Evaluation and grading policy Activity in class: 25% +/- 5% Midterm with aids from AI: 25% +/- 5% Final project: 50% +/- 10%
