Course Objective To familiarize the student with basic computer programming concepts. Topics cover the methods for analyzing problem statements, designing computer solutions, as well as an introduction into the syntax and semantics of the C and C++ programming language. An important objective of the course is to present effective methods of program design using modular construction and structured programming notions of sequence, selection, and iteration structures.

Course Schedule
(Week 1-16) 1 Overview of Computers and Programming 2 Overview of C 3 Top-Down Design with Functions 4 Selection Structures: if and switch Statements 5 Repetition and Loop Statements 6 Modular Programming 7 Simple Data Types 8 Arrays 9 Midterm 10 Strings 11 Recursion 12 Structure and Union Types 13 Text and Binary File Processing 14 Programming in the Large 15 Dynamic Data Structures 16 Multiprocessing Using Processes and Threads 17 On to C++
