Course Objective The course is designed to teach upper level graduate students about the recent advances in protein science and glycobiology with specific application in medical and biotechnological industries. The prerequisite classes for this course are: general organic chemistry, biochemistry, protein structure and glycobiology. Students are expected to learn the structure, biosynthesis, chemistry and cell biology in related to bioactive protein and glycconjugates. Students must be highly motivated and required actively participated in class discussion.

Protein purification 7. Gel & Western Analysis 8 LC & Mass-spec analysis 9. Mid-term case report (30%) 10. Introduction on glycobiology 11. Types & structures of glycan 12 Biosynthesis-N-glycans 13. Biosynthesis-O-linked glycans & O-GlcNAc 14. Biosynthesis of GPI 15. Proteoglycan & GAG 16. Structural analysis of glycans 17. Structural analysis of glycans 18. Final case report ( 50%)

Evaluation and grading policy Evaluation: Homework (20%), Mid-term (30 %), Final case report (40%), Class attendance (10 %) There will be 4 homework assignments. Mid-term presentation: PPT file Final exam is a summary report on selective topics.
