Course Objective Develop an understanding of fluid dynamics in aerospace engineering as well as a variety of other fields. Learn to use control volume analysis to develop basic equations and to solve problems. Understand and use differential equations to determine pressure and velocity variations in internal and external flows. Understand the concept of viscosity and where viscosity is important in real flows. Learn to use equations in combination with experimental data to determine losses in flow systems. Learn to use dimensional analysis to design physical or numerical experiments and to apply dynamic similarity.

Course Schedule 1. Introduction. A. Fluid behavior. B. Fluids Properties 2. Fluid statics. A. Hydrostatic forces. B. Pressure measurement by manometers. C. Static forces on surfaces. 3. Dynamics. A. Fluid dynamics. B. Continuity and conservation of mass. C. The Bernoulli equation. D. The Momentum equation. 4. Viscous flow in pipes. 5. Flow measurements. 6. Dimensional analysis.

Evaluation and grading policy 35% quizzes, 25% midterm exam, 30% final exam, 10% Homework.
