Course Objective	Modern control theory mainly focuses on linear system analysis and design. This is the course where students from a variety of backgrounds begin to acquire the mathematical tools used in research literature involving linear systems. The core material covered in this course is the theory of time-varying linear systems, in both continuous-time and discrete-time, with frequent specialization to the time invariant case. The goals of the course can be summarized as below:  Learning some useful facts about linear systems, emphasizing motivation and significance rather than mathematical formalism.  Learning some useful facts from matrix theory and linear algebra, and seeing them used.  Learning about mathematical reasoning. The course is presented in a standard format of lectures and readings sets. In addition to the closed-book final examination, there will be a number of homework assignments equally spaced over the term. You will be asked to do selected homework questions during class hours for evaluation purpose. Each student is required to make a presentation and submit a report based on a technical paper in related topics. The lecture will be based mainly, but not entirely, on material in the textbook. Course-related information will mainly be distributed via emails. Please make sure to keep us updated about your email addresses.

Evaluation and grading policy	The final grade will be a weighted average of attendance 10%, homework (including quizzes) 30%, midterm 30%, final presentation and report (or optional final examination) 30%.
