Description The course starts with a series of lectures on the history of modern philosophy with an emphasis of some major thinkers during that period of time such as Descartes, Spinoza, Locke, Hume, and Berkeley. By doing so, we would learn outstanding thoughts concerning Rationalism, Empiricism, and Idealism. We then shall move onto Kant with a particular look at his attempt of combining Rationalism and Empiricism into his Critical Philosophy. Afterwards, we will study Historical Materialism and the theory of Evolution provided by Marx, and Darwin, respectively, followed by a look at Freud’s psychoanalysis and some other major accounts in our time such as Existentialism, Heidegger, logical positivism and analytical philosophy.
