Description Traditional clay sculpture is commonly found in many Chinese traditional architectures. Clay sculptures and Koji pottery are of the same kind and both included in the six traditional Chinese architectural arts. They are regarded as the treasure heritages of Taiwan traditional crafts. In this curriculum, students will learn the professional knowledge of traditional clay sculpture and have the chances to practice the basic steps of making the clay sculpture. To complete two pieces of clay sculptures is required during the course. There will be two classes of field study, visiting traditional Chinese architectures (e.g. temples or buildings). During the visiting, students can appreciate the beauty of this fine art and see the transformation of a traditional clay work to art work. The field study will also enhance their understanding of clay sculptures from a new perspective.
