Description In the early period of time, folksongs played an important role in the aboriginal society. After 16th century Han immigrants brought their culture from mainland China, folksongs performed the functions of instruction, religion and entertainment. In colonial period, modern pop-songs and music became popular. In different period of Taiwanese history, large number of folksongs and pop-songs serve the gateway to understand the common people. Though today's pop-songs are the products of entertainment business, they still reflect common people's emotions and values as well as label the mark of social change. Taiwanese songs are important texts in this course. Through the analysis of the song lyrics, the students are expected to draw a vivid picture of the social change in the past.
