Description The used tool for this class is RSoft and COMSOL, common-used optical simulation software in industries. Students should present their work through final project presentations to examine their learning outcomes. The topics for final project include one-dimensional photonic crystals: thin film interference, anti-reflection film design, 2D/3D photonic crystals, transmission spectrum of microstructure, Bandgap calculation , Meta-materials: Micro-structured antennas, optical anti-reflective structures (invisible cloaks), basic wave optics: double-slit interferences, single-slit diffraction, and scattering (Rayleigh Scattering, Mie Scattering).
