Description This course examines the impact on human societies of surging oil and food prices, environmental pollution, and global warming, specifically: (1) impacts of the Chinese government’s change of policy on rare earth elements on high-tech development and national security in the European Union, The U.S., Japan, and other nations (2) theories of environmental security on national and regional bases in relation to worsening environmental pollution (3) impacts of global warming on human existence and its threats to national security (4) impacts of globalization and the WTO’s lifting of trade barriers on food production in developing nations, and impacts of global warming on agriculture, national sovereignty and interests, and intangible impacts on global food production and marketing (5) impacts of energy shortages and high oil prices on national energy security
