| Reverse engineering has become an important tool for geometric model construction in 3D CAD based on the data points, digitized from an existing part, for the downstream applications such as CAE and CAM. The process of reverse engineering can usually be subdivided into three stages, i.e. (1) part digitization for capturing the data points; (2) data point pre-processing; and (3) CAD modeling and/or updating. In this course, the relevant techniques in the three stages of reverse engineering procedure are introduced firstly. Through the project practice, the student is able to adept to the techniques of reverse engineering.
