5705462 Industrial Strategy and Analysis 3.0 3
Description This course aims to help students understand the logic behind a firm`s profitable growth. I also hope that students can realize the challenge a firm may face and the strateigc action a firm may take to sustain competitive advantage in the long term. This course examines markets: their structure, the strategies used by firms involved in the markets, and the overall economic performance of markets. We will start with the discussion of determinants of firm size. Then the course will continue to study behaviors of firms under a not perfect competitive environment and gives way to the application of economics in antitrust theory. While basic theoretical models are included-they are not the sole emphasis. In keeping with the structure-conduct-performance approach to Industrial Organization, emphasis is also placed on the use of industry case studies and applications of antitrust policies.
