Description This course is divided into three sections. The first three chapters deal with those chapters which are the principles of joining, including: Introduction, Surface science, and The mechanics of joining. The next six chapters describe the engineering options currently available for the joining and assembly of the components of an engineering system, including: Mechanical bonding, Welding, Welding Metallurgy, Soldering & Brazing, Metal-Ceramic Joints & Diffusion Bonding, Adhesives, and Structural Adhesives. The last two chapters take two areas of special interest, vacuum system and microelectronics, and survey the range of resolutions to joining problems which have been developed for these specific application.
