5404426 Introduction to Chinese-English Simultaneous Interpreting 2.0 2
Description Based on Introduction to Chinese-English Interpreting, this course introduces students to the profession of simultaneous interpreting (SI). Before key SI strategies are explained, students continue to brush up on skills obtained previously such as short-term memory retention, quick reflexes, gist extraction and note-taking techniques. Students learn essential SI elements, including paraphrasing or re-oralizing, split attention, multitasking, the time lag between interpreter and speaker, anticipation and reformulation. By practicing speaking and listening at the same time, students learn to interpret in real time at different settings. The course also seeks to acquaint students with the cognitive dimensions and extra-linguistic variables with regard to simultaneous interpreting.
