5403215 Spoken Word Performance 3.0 3
Description poken word performances (often called "slams") are currently popular around the world. Such performances usually combine written with performatory material, such as music, theatre and multi-media special effects. This class will prepare the student for an exciting foray into the realm of spoken word performance. Students will not just write-but write for performance-short poems or stories, brief comedy-monologues, hip-hop rhymes, autobiographical accounts, and/or brief dramatic pieces or recitations. These works will be conceptualized, rehearsed and maybe even re-envisioned by the addition of performatory elements such as music (basic songwriting is included in the class curriculum), staging, and multi-media experimentation with lights, sound, color and special effects. Grading will be based on diligence in developing a mid-term preparatory sketch of your main idea and a final performance before an audience of NTUT students and faculty.
