Description The purpose of this course is to further our knowledge about current theories and experiences with urban land use planning and growth management, and the struggle to define the collective future of our built environment. By identifying unique as well as common issues, problems, and innovations in urban growth management experiences, our hope is to improve planning practice. To examine these concerns, the course includes: 1. Land needs for urban growth. 2. Land use control and ethics. 3. Urban change and planning. 4.Growth management and the role of government. 5. Alternative approaches to growth management. 6. Balancing planning needs in growth management systems: environmental, transportation, housing, financing, risk, trust and organization concerns. 7. Conclusions
