Description 1. Course purposes One of the purposes of this course is to help students understand the evolution of Taiwan modern architecture. The other is to help students to realize the complex nature of architectural development, which not only relates building technology but also covers social, political, and cultural aspects. 2. Course contents The themes of this course focus on building types, building technologies, and the activities of architectural professionals. Chinese, Japanese, and other Asian modern architecture would be compared with Taiwan modern architecture. The contents of this course include the introduction of western architecture, the pioneer architects in Japanese colonial period, the establishment of architectural institute, historic architecture, the school of social policy, and modernism architecture.
