Description This course will introduce students to investigate the theory of transactional process of creating meaning in communication and to visualize design information. Models of people's information seeking behavior, information seeking tasks, and how people read will be introduced as the theoretical framework for visual design. Methodologies for assessing readers' information needs and evaluating the effectiveness of designs will be introduced as the basic tools of design practice. Students will be familiar with graphical representation skills using words, images, sound, and time to communicate efficiently and apply the skills to the disciplines of civil engineering.
