Description This graduate course is intended to cover important concepts and tools of lean manufacturing and their applications in non-manufacturing functions of an enterprise such as product and process development, information technology, and supply chain/logistics. Applications of lean management practices in healthcare industry, higher education, non-government organizations, and national research laboratories will also be discussed. Students are required to do term projects on value stream mapping analysis of real-world cases and share their findings with the class (oral + written). Lecture contents and assigned readings are primarily in English.
