| Intermediate soil mechanics is an advanced knowledge following soil mechanics, and is designed to apply soil mechanics to underground excavation such as shield tunneling as well as pipe jacking. This lecture will try to help students to use the theory in soil mechanics applying into how to select tunneling optimum method and type of vertical shaft. In addition, how to manage the chamber pressure and spoil return. Field trips will be arranged to provide students more opportunities to apply what they learn in the class to be verified in the construction site.
