Description This course is designed for undergraduate students to learn about the fundamentals of hair science, with emphasis on the knowledge of polymer material science applied to various chemical formulations of hair care products such as anti-dandruff shampoo, soaps, conditioners, fixatives, oils, waxes, and creams all available in the market. Students are provided with perspective topics including basic behaviors of hair growth and damage; chemical mechanisms by hair treatments such as color dyeing and bleaching; interactions of hair with shampoo and conditioner ingredients; green chemistry involved in compositions of natural products; regulations of safety and hygiene of hair care products.
