| Contemporary Asian Music-cultural contexts & historical reflection
1. We focus on the musical works and creative aesthetic by the composers in the 20th century in Eastern Asia such as Chang-hui Xu, Toru Takemitsu, Akira Miyoshi, Wen-zhong Zhou and Isang Yun. We also discuss the works and musical innovation from many other middle-aged Mandarin-oriented musicians in China and Taiwan, including Yan Lu, Jian-er Zhu, Zhong-rong Luo…etc. Special emphasis is laid on the conflicts accompanied by musical tradition, innovation and missions. Also included in the course are the Euro-Asian musical interactions and the impacts as created by Achille-Claude Debussy and Olivier Messiaen.
2. Based on the musical exhibitions being held by "Asian Musical ComposersAssociation," we keep track on the multi-phased musical innovation and the principal ideas on arts and culture that lay hidden deep in the contemporary Asian composers.
