Description This course attempts to provide a journey of reasoning so that students can better understand the transforming role and status of the traditional and contemporary Chinese women. By undergoing a series of discussion and exploration in the class, it is hoped that students will not only become more aware of gender issues but also build up their self-identity, sensitivity, and confidence in the pursuit their own gender equity physically and intellectually. Themes in the class include: female personality, value system, group consciousness, gender awareness, and the up-and-down of women's course of lives. Course readings are divided into the following three aspects: 1)The portrait of ancient women especially in the eyes of Chinese male intellectuals and writers: 2)Female collective writings on the discussion of women's studies and women's literature: 3)The live episodes of female interviewee.
