Description From the early aboriginal society to the immigrant society of the Hans and even to the current society, songs--in different period of times--always play an important role in civil life. In traditional society, folksongs perform the functions of instruction, religion and entertainment. A large number of folksongs serve the gateway to understand the common people. Though today's pop-songs are the products of entertainment business, they still reflect common people's emotions and values as well as label the mark of social change. Taiwanese songs (including folksongs and pop-songs) are important texts in this course. Through the analysis of the song lyrics, the students are expected to draw a vivid picture of the social change in the past.
