Description This course is designed for non-history majors. It is chiefly intended to interpret the role and significance of the historical fiction The Romance of the Three kingdoms in the development of the Chinese culture. In the spiritual aspect, The Romance of the Three kingdoms demonstrated the intellectual essence of Confucianism, Mohism,Taoism, the legalist school, and the political strategist school of ancient China. It also innovates new visions and new horizons in the traditional Confucian milieu, thus enriching the spirituality of the Chinese culture. The course includes the following topics of The Romance of the Three kingdoms :the cultural psychological structure, the ethic view, the political views of Confucianism, Mohism, Taoism, the legalist school, and the political strategist school, the characterization, etc. The class activities include lectures and discussions; students are also expected to submit written reports.
