Description This course is designed to give non-film major college students a comprehensive understanding of film within one semester. The goal of the course is to provide a survey of some major topics in cinema studies which are organized into three sections: film production and techniques, history, and criticism and theory. Course activities include lectures, film/video screenings, and discussions. Not only classic but also contemporary works will be screened, such as the films of Charles Chaplin, Serger Eisesnsten, Alfred Hitchcock, Steven Spielberg, Jane Campion and David Cronenberg. Although the course will focus primarily on theory, discussion are welcome.
