Description This course introduces not only the origins and development of dance but also important dances and their relevant allusions with the aim of fostering students' knowledge about basic elements of dance and major forms and content of various kinds of dance. With the introduction of basic elements of music, media, symbols, and techniques, this course aims to help students understand the methods and processes concerning the composition and expression of dance, and to deepen their appreciation of dance. Introducing the basic elements, functions, and values of dance, this course aims at helping students realize relationships between dance and life and those between dance and culture, stimulating their interest in dance and active participation in dancing activities, and expanding their artistic experiences. This course focuses on the following themes: introduction; introduction to and appreciation of various kinds of dance; dance literature; and dancing experiences.
