Description "Because research has the power to affect opinions and actions, responsible writers compose their work with great care." (MLA Handbook for the Writers of Research Papers, xiv). This course will define for students the rules, practices, purposes, and value of scrupulous scholarship and careful documentation in accordance with the MLA system shared by a wide community of researchers world-wide. Beginning with the selection of a general topic, moving toward a specific research question and then researching and documenting the answer to that question will be a step-by-step process with clear guidelines resulting in the student's knowledge of how to produce a paper acceptable to scholars world-wide.
