Description Cancers have a multiplicity of biological, physical, and chemical causes. This lecture reviews of the nature, mode of action, and hazards of the major groups of chemical carcinogens. Also presented is an introduction on cancer epidemiology, which is meant to be used as a guide to recognizing carcinogens. The more conventional topics of chemical carcinogenesis are represented, and they include carcinogenesis by halogenated solvents and pesticides; inhibition of carcinogenesis; asbestos concerns; carcinogenesis testing systems; and mineral fiber carcinogenesis. The reallzation that occupational environments and conditions can promote the incidence of numerous cancers has led to regulations and controls on exposure to various chemicals and substances.
