Description This course is comprised of two parts: introduction to the development of the Chinese history and studies on special topics of Chinese history. Major topics includes ethnical, social, and cultural problems; the advantages and disadvantages of the political policies of different dynasties; the characteristics of the agricultural economy in the history of China; the evolution of civil service examination systems, of financial structures, and of land policies. Class activities include lectures and discussions. Students are also expected to make oral and written reports so that they may have not only a comprehensive understanding of the essence of Chinese history, but also the ability of independent thinking and analysis.
