1. Basis of Computer Communication Networks and Protocols 2. Application Layer Protocols 3. Transport Control Protocols 4. IPv4 related protocol and It’s Problems 5. Medium Access Control and Local Area Networks (Ethernet-centric) 6. Data Link Control Protocols 7. IPv6 – The next generation Internet 8. Routing Protocols and Algorithms* -------------------------------------------------- Objectives: -------------- 1. Establishing the basis of computer communication and general networking 2. Understanding the performance analysis of various protocols and control mechanisms 3. Understanding various protocols, standards, device operations, services, and applications of the Internet 4. Understanding the operational principles, devices, and the design of Ethernet technologies
課程進度
Week 1-3: Basis of Computer Communication Networks and Protocols Evolution and Trend, Switching techniques, LAN/MAN/WAN, CO & CL approaches, Multiplexing, Addressing, Protocol (stack) and Layering (skin view), Network Topology, Internet architecture, Request for Comments (RFCs), Standard bodies Week 3-4: Application Layer Protocols Protocol layer interaction (deeper view), Services and APL protocols’ operation* (FTP, HTTP, SMTP, POP3, Telnet), Socket concept and programming examples Week 5-6: Transport Control Protocols User Datagram Protocol (UDP) & Transmission Control Protocol (TCP): Header, State TX., Flow, Error and Congestion controls Week 7-8: IPv4 related protocol and It’s Problems Full IPv4 and related protocols (ARP/RARP, ICMP, NAT, DHCP, subnetting), Problems of IPv4 and their Solutions (VLSM, Supernetting, CIDR), Router operation Week 9-12: Medium Access Control and Local Area Networks (Ethernet-centric) Minterm Exam. Get the right-of-the-way to transfer information across the media under various topology, Multiple access mechanisms and Performance issues,LAN Technology (Ethernet, Token Ring*), Devices (hub/repeater/switch/bridge) & operation, Design issues Week 13-14: Data Link Control Framing (Synchronization), Flow control, Reliable data transfer and Error recovery(ARQ) Week 15-16: IPv6 – The next generation Internet Three addressing schemes, protocol (Internet) operations , and various transition techniques Week 17-18: Routing Protocols and Algorithms* Routing for packet-switched data communication networks - Internet Final Exam and Presentation. * ~ would be covered if time's available
