English Description
The development of Contemporary ceramics after World War II is affected by different territories, cultures and histories. Peter Voulkos was one of the leading artists who proposed abstract ceramics movement and vessel aesthetics issues in America. At the same time, in Japan, Sodeisha presented works as ceramics sculpture; the idea of ceramics was shifted from functional to sculptural works. However, people who studied overseas and then brought Eastern and Western ideas to home represented the ceramic art in Taiwan during 1980’s. They delivered their concepts and presented their works through schools, exhibitions, competitions, workshops and private studios. Today, Taiwanese contemporary ceramics was generally derived from these backgrounds and looking for our own cultural identity.
